The Great Resignation Caused by Something Many Neglect

Professor Anthony Klotz the creator of the Great Resignation terminology believes that “How we spent our time before the pandemic may not be how we want to spend our time after.”

A recent survey by Microsoft’s Work Trend Index revealed that 41% of workers are thinking about resigning from their jobs.

Just like HR experts have postulated reasons for this great resignation, I will say the events from 2020 to present have removed the veil that was covering the wave of self awareness  among professionals worldwide.

Are you in between choosing whether to resign from your current job or stay working and start a side business that will bring you financial freedom? I am here to help.

The pandemic gave workers more free time to think about their careers, explore entrepreneurship and save more money.

Hence, leading many to realize their current job was not fulfilling.

Self awareness has been an issue for coaches, mentors, and speakers holding seminars, workshops and crying out for individuals to realise themselves and maximise their full potential.

Some speakers and writers even took the campaign for self awareness further by linking it up with the financial freedom theory of Robert Kiyosaki.

But, this awareness had never been easy and spontaneous until things became complicated in the workplace worldwide due to coronavirus.

The outbreak of coronavirus

On 31 December 2019, WHO was informed of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan City, China.

A novel coronavirus was identified as the cause by Chinese authorities on 7 January 2020 and was temporarily named “2019-nCoV”.

By mid 2020, governments started declaring lockdowns and companies started laying off employees.

This was just the beginning of horror in the job market.

As the fever of job insecurity took over the world, only then did professionals start to rethink the future of their personal lives and the lives of their families.

Professionals started seeking advice from mentors, coaches and spiritual leaders.

It is even on record that the demand for yoga, pilates, meditation and outdoor or ‘online’ classes with ‘personal trainer’ (PT) increased after confinement due to covid-19 and registration in these modalities continue to increase.

I even became a volunteer yoga instructor for my friends in Vancouver. 😚

Many have attained self awareness and self confidence, people are now more comfortable thinking of better occupations that could bring about self fulfillment, liberty and financial freedom.

Hence, the great resignation has become inevitable as more talent are even unwilling to return to their payroll jobs in 2021.

But, then here is the major question,

Is the Great Resignation for everyone?
